Yiannis Christofides | Moving Silence

Born in Nicosia, Cyprus, Yiannis Christofides is a composer, sound artist and researcher. His work focuses on contextual aspects of auditory experience and the specificities which produce them, through the investigation of our embodied entanglement with place. Led by a trans-sensorial, multimodal account of the body, his work integrates different media and creative practices and may take the form of fixed media audio, installation pieces and multimedia works. Yiannis has worked internationally as a composer and sound designer in various film, theatre and art projects. His work has been presented in Europe and the US.

Georgios Stavrou | Moving Silence

Georgios Stavrou is a member of the Center of Cypriot Composers, member of the Registry of Guitar Tutors and also a member of the European Guitar Teachers Association.

This year has recorded his work “Paginae Cursus” , and has also performed the Electronic work “ Pulsus”. Last May he has presented the work for Piano “Taurus” with Ermis Theodorakis and in July, he performed his work “Lines from Eclogue vii” dedicated to the Hungarian poet Miklos Radnoti with Chronos Ensemble. In September he has participated in the 4 International Contemporary Music Festival with the El Pierro Andaluz Ensemble and the work “To…”   and finally in October ,he took part at the 1^st Festival Of Contemporary Music with the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble  (MCME) and his  work “ Inclusionis Oppidum”.

  

O Γεώργιος Σταύρου είναι μέλος του Κέντρου Κυπρίων Συνθετών, μέλος του Registry of Guitar Tutors και επίσης μέλος της Ευρωπαϊκού Συνδέσμου Δασκάλων Κιθάρας.

Φέτος έχει ηχογραφήσει το έργο του "Paginae Cursus», και  επίσης  το  Ηλεκτρονικό του  έργο "Pulsus". Τον περασμένο Μάιο έχει παρουσιάσει το έργο για Πιάνο  “Taurus” με τον Ερμή Θεοδωράκη,  και τον Ιούλιο,  το έργο “Lines from Eclogue vii”  αφιερωμένο στον Ούγγρο ποιητή   Miklos Radnoti με το Chronos Ensemble . Τον Σεπτέμβριο έχει συμμετάσχει στο 4^th  International Contemporary Music Festival με το El Pierro Andaluz Ensemble και το έργο “To… ." και τέλος, τον Οκτώβριο, πήρε μέρος στο 1ο Φεστιβάλ Σύγχρονης Μουσικής με τo Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble  (MCME) και το έργο του "Inclusionis Oppidum.

Matthias Fritsch | Moving Silence

Ο Matthias Fritsch ανιχνεύει τις δυνατότητες και τους περιορισμούς πολιτιστικών πρακτικών μέσα από τη συμμετοχή.  Τα έργα του, πέρα από τα πλαίσια της τέχνης, χρησιμοποιούν και άλλες πλατφόρμες και κανάλια διάχυσης.

Matthias Fritsch traces the potential and boundaries of related cultural practices by way of participation. Correspondingly, his works are not only shown in an art context, but he also uses other platforms and distribution channels.

“Some-take Trio” consists of the smooth drumming of Markos Ioannou, the energy-infused violin of Costas Lolos and the warm guitar of Memnon Arestis. These three individuals are friends who are involved together in other bands, and were given the opportunity to express their collective musical interpretation of the film “Sleeper in Metropolis”. 

Some-take Trio will be performing to the films "Sleeper in Metropolis" by Sandra Trierweiler, Eva Hardmann, Manuela Hartl and "Toronto" by Andreas Koch on Friday 14 December.

Japanese artist Shingo Inao (a.k.a. "stra.") performs live with a sonification of body movement using sensor-driven techniques using his self-made instruments with tilt and distance sensors. His performances and objects&installations have been shown in Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Russia, America and Japan. His first album as solo project "stra." will be released in 2013. Represented by music label "onpa" Tokyo and Gallery Mario Mazzoli Berlin. www.shingoinao.com

Shingo Inao will  be performing on Friday 14 December to the films "Buscam No.2" (2001) by Matthias Fritsch and "A ras de suelo" (2010) by Amanda Lopez.

Marco Brosolo always made pen and pencil drawings and he always played organ, guitar and drums. He creates songs, film and theater music using all kind of technology. He invented "ast", an innovative sensor music controller using Arduino. Marco Brosolo is part of Berlin's Chor der Kulturen der Welt and founder of Moving Silence (contemporary silent cinema). Originally Italian, he lives inside a bubble located in Berlin.

Ο Marco Brosolo έφτιαχνε πάντα σχέδια με πένα και μολύβι και πάντα έπαιζε όργανο, κιθάρα και τύμπανα.  Δημιουργεί τραγούδια, ταινίες και μουσική για θέατρο χρησιμοποιώντας διάφορες τεχνολογίες.  Εφηύρε το  “ast”, ένα καινοτόμο αισθητήρα ρύθμισης μουσικής χρησιμοποιώντας arduino.  Ο Marco Brosolo είναι μέλος της Χορωδίας των Πολιτισμών του Κόσμου (Kulturen der Welt) στο Βερολίνο και συνιδρυτής του Moving Silence (σύγχρονος βωβός κινηματογράφος).  Με καταγωγή την Ιταλία, ζει μέσα σε μια φούσκα στο Βερολίνο.

On Saturday 15 December he will be performing to the films "Love me or kill me" by Sven Haeberlein and "Oh Dear" by Nicolas Provost as well as perform with his self-made instrument "AST".

Xaver Xylophon | Moving Silence

These days Xaver Xylophon is making animated short films but in his early years he wanted to become a composer for film music and that's why he convinced his parents to get piano lessons. Even if interests have shifted since then, Xaver still plays the piano and sometimes there comes the opportunity to accompany one of the ongoing projects with some homemade music.

Αυτές τις μέρες ο Xaver Xylophon φτιάχνει ταινίες μικρού μήκους – κινουμένων σχεδίων, αλλά όταν ήταν μικρός ήθελε να γίνει συνθέτης για μουσική ταινιών και γι’ αυτό έπεισε τους γονείς του να παρακολουθήσει μαθήματα πιάνου.  Παρόλο που τα ενδιαφέροντα του έχουν αλλάξει από τότε, ο Xaver συνεχίζει να παίζει πιάνο και κάποτε έχει ευκαιρίες να συνοδεύσει ένα από τα εν εξελίξει έργα με «σπιτική» μουσική.

Storytelling is one of natrYX’s deepest and most valuable creative sources, expressed through her preferred mediums which are sound, visuals, movement, photography, painting and crafts.

Moving Silence II

The second special two-day event on contemporary "silent" moving image and experimental sound

Following the great success of the first Moving Silence event in Cyprus, held last December at the ARTos Foundation, the second Moving Silence event will take place this year within the framework of the 4th X-Dream Festival.  On Friday 14th and Saturday 15th of December 2012, musicians from Germany, Japan, Greece and Cyprus will meet at the ARTos Foundation to perform live soundtracks for "silent" video and film works by contemporary creators.  On the second day of this special two-day event, performances will take place with unique self-made instruments. 

"The contemporary cinema could take back this expressive freedom" the Moving Silence members state.  "Any visual style can profit from a sound language, by using advanced digital technologies as well as old analog techniques. Live performances sustain and amplify the films as musicians can breathe new life into silent cinema, which inappropriately remained silent for such a long time." Encouraging collaboration and exchange between musicians, artists and cinematographers, the Moving Silence platform therefore invites the Nicosia audience to new audiovisual experiences expressed through live improvisations and interpretations, where experimental image and sound are expected to meet in unusual and unexpected ways.

What is Moving Silence?

Moving Silence was originally founded in summer 2009 by the musician Marco Brosolo, filmmaker Matthias Fritsch and producer Federico Bassetti with the aim  to create events that connect the roots of cinematography with the present aesthetics of image, the live music production and the potential of new technology. It constitutes a poetic, intercultural and collaborative attempt in times of information overload. It embraces experimentation and merging between contemporary forms of visual and sound inviting artists from different parts of the world to join in. Moving Silence events have taken place in different cities around Europe.

Ένα διήμερο αφιερωμένο στη σύγχρονη βωβή κινούμενη εικόνα και τον πειραματικό ήχο

  

Σε συνέχεια της μεγάλης επιτυχίας του πρώτου Moving Silence στην Κύπρο, που πραγματοποιήθηκε τον περασμένο Δεκέμβριο στο ίδρυμα ARTos, το δεύτερο Moving Silence πραγματοποιείται φέτος στα πλαίσια του 4^ου X-Dream Festival.  Την Παρασκευή 14 και το Σάββατο 15 Δεκεμβρίου 2012 στις 8:30 μ.μ. στο ίδρυμα ΑRTοs, μουσικοί από Γερμανία,  Ιαπωνία, Ελλάδα και Κύπρο θα συναντηθούν για να ερμηνεύσουν ζωντανά στο κοινό βωβές ταινίες σύγχρονων δημιουργών.  Το δεύτερο βράδυ οι παραστάσεις θα πραγματοποιηθούν με μοναδικά αυτοσχέδια όργανα.

"O σύγχρονος κινηματογράφος μπορεί να ανακτήσει την εκφραστική ελευθερία του” λένε τα μέλη του Moving Silence. "Κάθε ύφος εικόνας μπορεί να ωφεληθεί από τη γλώσσα του ήχου, ψηφιακού ή αναλογικού. Ενθαρρύνοντας τη συνεργασία και ανταλλαγή μεταξύ μουσικών, καλλιτεχνών και κινηματογραφιστών, και αφήνοντας χώρο στο ζωντανό αυτοσχεδιασμό, η πλατφόρμα Moving Silence καλεί  το κοινό να έρθει σε επαφή με νέες οπτικοακουστικές εμπειρίες, όπου ο ήχος και η εικόνα θα συναντηθούν με με ασυνήθιστο και απροσδόκητο τρόπο.

Τι είναι το Moving Silence;

Η πλατφόρμα κινηματογραφιστών και μουσικών Moving Silence  ιδρύθηκε το 2009 στο Βερολίνο από τον μουσικό Marco Brosolo, τον κινηματογραφιστή Matthias Fritsch και τον παραγωγό Federico Bassetti με με σκοπό να συνδέσει τις ρίζες του κινηματογράφου με την αισθητική της σύγχρονης εικόνας, τη ζωντανή παραγωγή μουσικής και πιθανές νέες τεχνολογίες. Είναι μια ποιητική, διαπολιτισμική προσπάθεια συνεργασίας σε μία εποχή υπερφορτωμένη με πληροφορίες.  Αγκαλιάζει τον πειραματισμό και τη συγχώνευση μεταξύ σύγχρονων μορφών οπτικής και ηχητικής. 65 λεπτά!

Μια παρέα ανθρώπων βρίσκονται κάτω από παράξενες συνθήκες σε ένα πάρκο, γύρω από ένα ΄΄τραπέζι΄΄…

Έχουν ανταποκριθεί διαισθητικά σε ένα αόρατο κάλεσμα. Έτσι, αυθόρμητα αποφασίζουν να μπουν σε ένα παράδοξο παιχνίδι με σκοπό να κρατηθούν όλοι μαζί σε υψηλές δονήσεις χαράς. Για 65 συνεχόμενα λεπτά!

Θα υποδυθούν ρόλους, θα αφηγηθούν παράδοξες ιστορίες, θα χορέψουν, θα ταυτιστούν με καταστάσεις, θα εξερευνήσουν τη φύση των πραγμάτων και των εαυτών τους, θα υπερβούν τα όριά τους προσπαθώντας να μείνουν σταθερά χαρούμενοι ακόμα κι αν διαπραγματεύονται με πράγματα που… πονάνε.

Θα τα καταφέρουν;

Η νέα παραγωγή του θεάτρου ΔΕΝΤΡΟ είναι μια αλληγορική ματιά στην παραδοξότητα της διπλής φύσης των πραγμάτων. Χαρά, λύπη, ομορφιά, ασχήμια, αρσενικό, θηλυκό, κίνηση, ακινησία, λόγος, σιωπή θα παρελάσουν στη σκηνή άλλοτε απαλά σαν το βελούδο και άλλοτε σκληρά σαν το αγκάθι, ψάχνοντας ένα βαθύτερο νόημα.  Τι είναι πέρα από την χαρά και την λύπη.

Πρόκειται για μια παράσταση του σήμερα για το σήμερα, στα όρια μιας εποχής που θέλει να αλλάξει αλλά δεν ξέρει πώς

.

Το υλικό των 65 λεπτών βασίζεται σε μια σειρά από ιστορίες του Δημήτρη Φυρίου, που πρόσφατα έκδωσε το πρώτο του βιβλίο με τίτλο «Η παράδοξη ιστορία ενός άσπρου και ενός μαύρου».

Τη συναρμολόγηση αυτών των ιστοριών καθώς και τη σκηνοθεσία της παράστασης υπογράφει η Κατερίνα Λούρα.

Παίζουν η Κατερίνα Λούρα, ο Σπύρος Τουλιάτος, ο Αντώνης Αντωνίου και η Ριαλένα Νικοδήμου.

Την χορογράφηση της παράστασης έκαναν η Ριαλένα Νικοδήμου και ο Αντώνης Αντωνίου.

Τα κοστούμια έχει αναλάβει η Στάλω Μαρκίδη.

A group of friends are under strange circumstances at a park, around a “table”…

They have responded intuitively to an invisible calling.  Just like that, they spontaneously decide to venture onto a paradoxical game, aiming for all of them to stay together on high vibrations of joy.  For 65 continuous minutes!

They will play roles, they will narrate paradoxical stories, they will dance, they will identify with situations, they will explore the nature of things and themselves, they will transcend their limits trying to constantly remain happy, even if they are dealing with things that… hurt.

Will they make it?

The new production by Theatro Dentro is an allegorical view at the paradox of the double nature of things.  Joy, sadness, beauty, ugliness, male, female, movement, stillness, speech, silence will al parade on stage sometimes as soft as velvet and sometimes as hard as a thorn, looking for a deeper meaning.  What is beyond joy and sadness.

This is a show of today for today, at the limits of a time that wants to change but does not know how. 

The material of 65 minutes is based on a series of stories by Demetris Fyriou, who recently published his first book entitled “The paradox story of a while and a black”.

Katerina Loura puts together and directs these stories.

The X-Dream Festival returns for the fourth consecutive year, following the great success of previous years.  This time it begins with a performance entitled “S|L|AVE” by Eleni Theodoridou (Greece) on Sunday, 9 December 2012 at 20:30.  It continues on the same evening with Julien Cox (France) performance of electronic music.

Eleni Theodoridou was born in Thessaloniki, where she studied at the Education Faculty of the Aristotle University, learnt drawing at the workshop Praxis and various other things depending on the weather.  She moved to Athens and studied film, and since then she directs, writes scripts, does performances, grows cats and still dreams of working at the circus when she grows up.

Music performance Julien Cox

The performance by Julien Cox includes traditional sounds and goes on a journey of different styles of electronic music…

Eclectic to the end, Julien contributed to a ballet within the collective Hall of Kids, worked on the soundtrack of a show at the Fashion Week in Paris and has recently integrated and collective FHD Just A Trip.

Η Ελένη Θεοδωρίδου γεννήθηκε στη Θεσσαλονίκη, όπου και σπούδασε στην Παιδαγωγική  Σχολή του Αριστοτελείου Πανεπιστημίου, ζωγραφική στο εργαστήρι Πράξις και άλλα διάφορα αναλόγως με τον καιρό.  Μετακόμισε στην Αθήνα και σπούδασε κινηματογράφο, και από τότε σκηνοθετεί, γράφει σενάρια, κάνει performance, μεγαλώνει γάτες και ακόμα ονειρεύεται όταν μεγαλώσει να δουλέψει στο τσίρκο.

Julien Cox

Το performance του Julien Cox (Γαλλία) συμπεριλαμβάνει πιο παραδοσιακούς ήχους και ταξιδεύει σε διάφορα στυλ ηλεκτρονικής μουσικής…

Εκλεκτικός μέχρι τέλους, ο Julien Cox συνέβαλε στο μπαλέτο μέσα από τη κολεκτίβα Hall of Kids, εργάστηκε για το soundtrack μιας παρουσίασης για το Fashion Week στο Παρίσι και έχει πρόσφατα ενταχθεί στην FHD Just A Trip.
